One of the things you can do to protect your WordPress site is by protecting your own computer. Now, it might not seem related but it really is. If your computer, say for example, gets a virus or malware of some sort; You edit the files on your computer, you upload them on your site; those specific files could be infected! And I’ve seen this in many cases.
In fact, let me make a point here. WordPress – the platform, the software has never had a security breach before. What tends to open the security holes are plug-ins, themes, or your computer. So, if you can protect yourself, your computer, that is a start.
Now, I assume that the majority of you have some sort of anti-virus software. And, if you don’t, I want to point you to some that are free but are actually very powerful, Avast.com is one of them.
When most people think about protecting their computer, they only think about viruses. What they don’t realize is there are other things like spyware and malware that can affect your files.
Now, spyware primarily attacks your computer. So, you want to protect it in all different ways because if you upload files that could potentially hurt your WordPress site or any site, for that matter, then it could affect your viewers, your customers, and lower your reputation down the road.
So, you want to make sure that you do your best to protect your computer.
